03. Nursing Home Mini-Concerts
Using music to bring some joy back to the communities that need it.
Overview
During the Covid pandemic, many nursing homes were isolated from the outside world to protect their vulnerable residents. This meant that many residents were unable to see their families or participate in any social activities. To help bring some joy back to these communities, I started an initiative to perform mini-concerts for the residents of a local nursin home.
Process
The process began by reaching out to local nursing homes to see if they would be interested in having me and my bandmates perform for their residents. A few homes were still under strict "lockdown" protocols, but one home was willing to let us perform for their residents. We scheduled a date and time for the performance and began preparing our set list.
We played a first concert with songs from the golden age: Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, and more. The residents loved it and we received a lot of positive feedback from the residents, and we even had a few former singers and dancers join in for a few songs! We scheduled a second concert a few weeks later, and played, but unfortunately were not able to return for a third concert due to increase Covid risk.
Reflection
This project was a touching experience that reminded me of the power of music and the importance of community in difficult times. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to use my musical talents to bring some joy to those who needed it most. Hopefully I will be able to continue this initiative in the future and bring more music to those in need.
